Personal Development Curriculum Intent
Personal, Social, Health and Economic education at Kidsgrove Secondary is a school subject through which pupils develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to manage their lives, now and in the future. These skills and attributes help pupils to stay healthy, safe and prepare them for life and work in modern Britain.
We pride ourselves on the opportunities we provide pupils with to support their academic studies. We aim to give ALL pupils a broad and wide experience of school life. The purpose of our personal development curriculum is to enable students to engage with skills, ideas and activities which they can see has an immediate link with the world outside of school as well as in.
We are committed to informing parents on a weekly basis about the topics covered each week.
Votes for Schools is a programme created to give all young people a better knowledge of current affairs and get them voting! It is a platform to enable teachers to inform our pupils about the news and current affairs. The programme is designed to inspire young people, whilst encouraging them to express their opinions and vote on the topics each week. Every vote by a young person is shared with decision makers and makes a difference.
The topics cover aspects of:
Spiritual, moral, social and cultural topics.
British values – democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and a mutual respect for tolerance of those with different faiths and belief and for those without faith.
The prevent agenda - this involves safeguarding young people from radicalisation. Votes for Schools encourages students to voice different views, demonstrating that opinions are different to facts and should be supported with an informed evidence base.
