The Importance of SEND at Kidsgrove Secondary School
Inclusion is at the heart of everything we do. Supporting students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) is not a standalone element of our school; it is woven into the very fabric of our Teaching and Learning culture.
We recognise that no two learners are the same. That’s why adaptive teaching is a key part of every lesson, across every subject and every year group. Our staff are trained to recognise different learning needs and to plan lessons that are flexible, responsive, and supportive of all learners. From providing visual aids and scaffolds, to offering alternative ways of recording or expressing understanding, we ensure that learning is accessible and meaningful for every student.
SEND is not about lowering expectations—it’s about removing barriers. Our aim is to help all students feel confident, capable, and celebrated for their progress, whether big or small. We believe that with the right support and an inclusive environment, every child can thrive.
We are proud of our inclusive ethos and will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that every learner is seen, supported, and given the opportunity to succeed.
A Message from the SENDCo – Ms Kim Hambleton
At our school, we believe that every child matters—regardless of their starting point, background, or individual needs. Labels do not define our students. What truly matters is that each child receives the support, care, and opportunities they need to thrive.
As the school’s Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCo), I am committed to ensuring that all students are valued as individuals and are supported to achieve their full potential. Whether a child has a formal diagnosis or simply needs a little extra help along the way, they will always be met with understanding, high expectations, and tailored provision.
I have been a teacher for 16 years and becoming a SENDCo has been more than just a career choice—it is a calling and an absolute privilege. I am passionate about inclusion and dedicated to breaking down barriers to learning so that every child, no matter their need, can succeed and feel a true sense of belonging.
Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions or would like to discuss the support available for your child.
